Browser Swap: Set Default Browser For Wi-Fi/2G/3G & Websites
![]() Browser Swap is a fresh entrant to the Android Market that provides you with the option of specifying a preferred web browser through which a specific user-defined URL would open. For instance, you can set up the app to open the desktop variant of a website with Boat Browser, and the mobile variant of the same website via UC Browser, or vice versa. Said feature, when coupled with the option of easily specifying specific default browsers for browsing the internet under Wi-Fi, 2G and 3G connections, make Browser Swap a rather unique prospect in its own regard. Hit the jump to explore the details, screenshots and download links. Although the recently reviewed ICS Browser Plus, and many other third party web browsers offer the option to switch between the user agent (UA) strings to always open a device-specific variant of a website, this option is simply not feasible under normal circumstances. Why? Because if you’re required to switch to another variant of the same website, you’ll either have to go through the hassle of toggling back and forth between required UA string from your browser’s settings, find the URL to that site’s another (mobile) variant, or manually feed the exact URL of required variant of the website. Quite clearly, all said methods demand lots of time and effort, which most users can simply ill-afford to give. Also, if you love having multiple browsers installed on your device, and wish to open specific websites with a different/favorite one, you can easily have your wish granted via Browser Swap. ![]() ![]() When launched for the first time, Browser Swap prompts you to set it as your default web browser. For this, just hit the Set as Default button. From the drop-down menu, check the Use by default for this action option, and finally, select Browser Swap. This leads you to the app’s homescreen, from where you can start configuring default options for all the required internet connections, websites and web browsers as per your liking. To choose a default web browser while surfing the internet under a Wi-Fi, 2G or 3G connection, just tap on the icon of the required connection, and select the required browser for each. Tapping the Configure Sites button on the homescreen lets you pick specific (default) browser for any website you like. From within the Configure Sites screen, tap the Add a site to configure browser button, enter the exact URL of your preferred website, hit Add, and that’s it! The next time you open that particular URL on your Google search bar, it would automatically open the web address via the specified browser, without prompting you to pick one. ![]() ![]() Needless to say, you can specify a browser as the ‘default’ one for multiple connection types as well as websites. In order to modify or delete a website from the list of configured sites, you just need to tap on the required URL, and make any necessary amendments as required. Browser Swap Lite is the free variant of the app that lets you access all the features without placing any restrictions whatsoever for a maximum of 15 days only. After said period is over, you can still continue using the app in all its powers, but not before experiencing a delay of 20 seconds between opening any two (or more) websites at the same time. To lift this restriction, you can upgrade to the paid variant of the app, called Browser Swap, for only $2. Apart from letting you download the app, the Market page of Browser Swap also displays the list of all the supported browsers.
