(Newser) – He's only 21, but Daniel Radcliffe is off the booze for good. In an interview with British GQ as reported by the Telegraph , the actor explains that he started partying too much at age 18, during the filming of Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince. His drink of choice? Whisky. Lady luck? On his side. "I really got away with that because there were many instances when a shot like that could have been taken," he says of the paparazzi somehow missing his alcohol-filled days.


"I became so reliant on [alcohol] to enjoy stuff," he says. "As much as I would love to be a person that goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time, that doesn't work for me. I do that very unsuccessfully." So he quit drinking in August, and hasn't had a sip since. "I'm actually enjoying the fact I can have a relationship with my girlfriend where I'm really pleasant and I'm not f---ing up totally all the time." He continues, "There'sno shame in enjoying the quiet life. And that's been the realization of the past fewyears for me."
